End of the road for any peace talk
I woke up the morning of the massacre, people at the office, on the streets were in shock and in disbelief; unable to believe that this scene had been seen by their own eyes not long ago, unable to understand what could cause such a massacre to happen; unwilling to compromise in their thoughts that Israel, Bush and Egypt have all plotted this Palestinian annihilation
What happened in Gaza two days ago, and still happening as I write this, will halt any peace talks meant to establish any kind of stability in the Palestinian territories and Israel.
Tsibni Livni announced three days ago that Hamas needed to be taught a lesson for not negotiating and settling their differences with their Palestinian counterparts. But what kind of deadly lesson is that? .
If there was the slightest chance of any peace talks with the newly elected American office, newly elected Livni and of course a new united Palestinian authority, this chance is over and now we are back at zero.
I remember two weeks ago, Israeli-Palestinian peace talks were getting ready for the new year because change will come not just from Obama, but all parties were on a new path in their governments. They were encouraging the Palestinians to solve their internal conflicts and have early elections but that of course, didn’t happen.
And now with what the Israelis are doing, we could just forget about any peace talks for another 10 years. The Israelis should have waited and maybe fired a couple of missiles just to retaliate in a very light way.
What went wrong all of a sudden? Everybody was waiting for next year to start peace talks?
But Israelis announced that they wanted to shape new security force.
I think this was a bad move by the Israelis. The right thing to do was to wait and keep the Hamas issue, a Palestinian problem and throw the blame on the Palestinian for not getting their act together for the a new negotiating table.
But Israelis have definitely learned a lesson from their June 2006 war with Hezbollah, which is never to underestimate your enemy’s strength from infrastructure to rocket arsenals. In 2006, Israel seemed weak in front of Hezbollah rockets that hit as far as Haifa, but now Israel has proved itself to be as brutal and as well-prepared as everyone remembers.
But will this short-lived war have any effect on Hamas?
They will remain in control and Palestinians will nonetheless sympathize with them, so all these missiles and lives are gone in vain.
On the other hand, It seems as if Palestinian lives are worth nothing. This is not a political issue anymore, it has exceeded an Arab issue, it’s a humanitarian crisis. Dead bodies lying on the streets, injuries and poverty. This is murder by large numbers based on their ethnicity, that’s a genocide. But no one can hear their cry, no one can see their dead brother or sister, no one can feel their pain.

If the arabs would let the Jews live in peace and not fire rockets into their civilian populations none of this would be happening….I dont agree with wholesale slaugther of Palestinians but thier will never be peace talks as long as the Arabs keep disrespecting the jews and say that they don’t have a right to exist…..The Jews are just defending themselves don’t believe all this propraganda your hearing i really hate to say it but they brought it upon themselves….There wont be any peace in the middle east until well after World War 3 so you might as well get used to it…..
Thank you! I just don’t understand how people can sit here and give Israel a free pass here. They leveled an entire neighborhood in seconds! Great post, glad to see there’s someone else who feels like me on this. I’d love to get your insight on my posts too,
Cheers
